ITU WC Series - Madrid

Hewitt Wins Madrid Sprint (May 31, 2009 )
The 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series continued its exciting start to the year with some breathtaking races at round two in Madrid, Spain.Andrea Hewitt outsprinted four other competitors to win in a photo finish ahead of Sweden’s Lisa Norden in the women’s race as they crossed the line together in 2:05:58, with the last ditch effort paying off for the Kiwi who suffered at the opening race of the series in Tongyeong when she crashed early on the cycle leg. Jessica Harrison from France finished in third just one second behind, with Germany’s Christiane Pilz and Sarah Haskins from the USA trailing in having run most of the 10km together

Brownlee Destroys Field in Spain (May 31, 2009 )
Although the men’s race lacked the excitement of a sprint finish it too provided some exceptionally compelling competition as talented young Brit, Alistair Brownlee, put himself on the map with a dominant performance in the men’s competition whilst 2008 world champion, Javier Gomez, returned to the Caso de Campo in front of an expectant home crowd.

Tomorrow's Triathletes are OK

Tomorrow's triathletes are OK

Success among Canada's juniors bodes well for the sport

By Cleve Dheensaw, Times Colonist May 19, 2009

Where will the next generation of Canadian triathletes come from when the likes of double Olympic-medallist Simon Whitfield of Victoria eventually hang up the Speedos, bike helmets and running shoes?
You don't have to look too far. Apparently, the kids are alright. Gen Next was on ample display over the weekend as 19-year-old Kyla Coates won the women's junior event and fellow-Victorian Andrew McCartney placed third in the men's Under-23 race at the Pan American championships in Oklahoma City.
