Canadian Rookie Paula Findlay Wins Gold in World Championship Triathlon Series Debut
July 24, 2010
LONDON, England—Canadian rookie Paula Findlay shocked the world by winning the gold medal in her first-ever World Championship Triathlon Series race on the Olympic course in London, England on Saturday.
“Oh my God this is so unbelievable,” beamed Findlay at the finish line. “I felt better than ever on the run today, and just kept pushing as hard as I could.”
Running on pure guts and bravery, the 21-year-old took on three of the world’s best triathletes who finished in the top-10 at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing. With just under one mile to go, the red-headed protégé threw down the gauntlet and the field could not respond.

Alexander Hinton and Joanna Brown Claim Gold in Quebec at Teck National Junior Series Triathlon Race
July 25, 2010
MAGOG, Que.—Alexander Hinton and Joanna Brown locked up their first victories of the season in the third leg of the men’s and women’s triathlon Teck National Junior Series races in Magog, Quebec on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Hinton rebounded after a slow start to the 750-metre swim to exit the water in fourth spot. Hinton had strong race tactics while working together with a group of four on the 20-kilometre bike portion of the race, before being caught by nearly 20 riders at the mid-way point on the bike. Exchanging leads through the second transition and into the 10-kilometre run, the Kingston, Ont. native put the hammer down on the field at the five-kilometre point, and ran to his first-ever title.
“It certainly feels good to get the win,” said Hinton who clocked a time of 58 minutes, 29 seconds. “I hadn’t raced in nearly a month and came so close to winning earlier this year in Coteau-du-Lac, so I am really happy I was able to win.”

Canadian Rookie Narrowly Misses Podium
DES MOINES, Iowa—Canada’s Paula Findlay proved once again she is ready to race against the world’s best triathletes after the rookie narrowly missed the podium in one of the most prestigious triathlon races of the season in Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Edmonton native matched strides with three of the world’s powerhouses in the sport in the 10-kilometre run to finish fourth at the ITU Hy-Vee Triathlon Elite Cup with a time of one hour 59 minutes 54 seconds (1:59:54).
“I had no idea I could do this today. I’m still so surprised,” said Findlay, who earned $20,000 US for her performance. “I was racing girls that I am always watching on television and to be able to keep up with them is just amazing for me. The money is a nice little bonus, but I never even thought about it today.”

Team Canada Motto
from CBC website:
1. Team Canada's credo — Leave No Doubt
Below is the English version of the credo that adorned a wall in the Team Canada dressing room in Vancouver. There also was a French version. It was written by Canadian head coach Mike Babcock with help from a friend from their Saskatoon days, Rick Larsen. He runs the Chicago advertising firm Leo Burnett.
LEAVE NO DOUBT
That this is our game.
That this is our time.
That 14 days in February will be 2 weeks for the ages.
That every day counts.
That every meeting matters.
That every practice makes a difference.
That each one of us will rise to every occasion.
That this isn't about us, it's about our country.
That we know 33 million Canadians will attend every game.
That home ice is an advantage.
That nothing can distract us.
That nothing will stop us.
That our determination will define us.
That we are built to win.
That we are a team of character.
That we are a team of destiny.
So let the world be warned on February 28, 2010, we will …
